New Holiday Campaign Will Help Rebuild a Home in New Orleans

Theresa LlopisHere’s a holiday message from Ken Budd:

Hello! I’d like to ask a favor. This week, I’m working with Rebuilding Together New Orleans (RTNO) on a campaign we’re calling “A Home for the Holidays.” For each person who likes my Facebook page from December 16-20, I’ll donate building materials to help New Orleans resident Theresa Llopis (at right) to rebuild her home. Ms. Llopis’s house in Gentilly suffered major damage when the levees broke following Hurricane Katrina, and now, eight years later – after multiple setbacks – the resilient Ms. Llopis and RTNO have embarked on renovations. With your assistance, we can help Theresa return to her longtime family home in 2014. Here’s the donation schedule: Starting today, Monday the 16th, each Facebook like = one piece of lumber. On Tuesday: Floor Tiles. Wednesday: Window Screens. Thursday: Weather-stripping. Friday: Paint.

Please help spread the word via e-mail or social media! Here’s what Rebuilding Together New Orleans has posted on its site (along with info on Ms. Llopis) if you’d like to share the link: One Click Can Help Rebuild a Home

Or, to share my Facebook page, please go here: https://www.facebook.com/AuthorKenBudd

I volunteered with RTNO in 2006, nine months after Hurricane Katrina. All of the funding for “A Home for the Holidays” is coming from my book, The Voluntourist, which shares my experiences as a seriously unskilled volunteer in New Orleans and five other locations. Thanks for your support!
