The Voluntourist Included on “Best Books” List

Ken and Wang HuiWhat does Ken Budd have in common with Bill Bryson, Jane Goodall, and Nicholas D. Kristof? Their works are all featured in a list of the best books to read before volunteering abroad, compiled by GoOverseas.comwhich calls The Voluntourist a “hilarious and honest tale.”

The Voluntourist tells the story of Ken’s search for meaning as a short-term volunteer in New Orleans, Costa Rica, China (right), Ecuador, Palestine, and Kenya.

“For prospective ‘voluntourists,’ it doesn’t get any more realistic than this,” write list compiler Katie Boyer of The Voluntourist. “Reading this story is a great way to get in the right mindset for volunteering abroad… Budd describes the wonders of the lands, the cultures, and the peoples with an exceptionally fresh perspective.”
