Ken Budd will speak at the headquarters of Cross-Cultural Solutions (CCS) in New Rochelle, New York on January 31 at 5:30 pm and 7:00 pm, as part of a CCS open house. In addition to sharing a multimedia presentation on The Voluntourist, Ken will donate 100 percent of book sales to the Franco Lalama scholarship, which will help future CCS volunteers to serve in Costa Rica.
CCS headquarters is about a 30-minute train ride from Grand Central Station. The address is 2 Clinton Place, New Rochelle, NY 10801. For information call Laura Mack at 1-914-632-0022 or 1-800-380-4777, firstname.lastname@example.org.
Franco Lalama (see photo) was a Port Authority of New York and New Jersey employee who lost his life on 9/11 after leading the evacuation of engineering offices on the 64th floor of One World Trade Center. Ken became friends with Mr. Lalama’s stepdaughter and her future husband through their CCS volunteer work in Costa Rica, as recounted in The Voluntourist. The goal for the scholarship is to reach the $10,000 mark; the current total is $3,500, thanks in part to money from The Voluntourist. Ken is donating his earnings from the book to the places and organizations where he volunteered. You can read Mr. Lalama’s story here.
